The festive season is often associated with a renewed sense of hope, togetherness, and the spirit of giving. During these special moments of celebration and reflection on the year gone by, it is a natural time to consider those less-fortunate and extend a helping hand. According to the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), financial giving remains a significant aspect of Singapore's philanthropic landscape, with many individuals choosing to donate to those less-fortunate, especially during the year-end festve period.
While the desire to give is strong, it is equally important to ensure that your efforts have the greatest possible impact, making sure that your contributions not only touch lives but transform them. This is where the importance of strategic philanthrophy comes in, to help channel your goodwill and maximise the benefits of your giving. Strategic philanthropy goes beyond occasional donations; it involves thoughtful, impactful contributions that optimise social welfare from your contributions. By carefully considering your charitable actions, we can be catalysts of kindness that make a mark far beyond the holiday season.
How can we make our giving truly count during this special time of the year?
Cash donations are one of the most direct ways to support charitable organisations as they provide the essential resources for charities to sustain operations, acquire much-needed supplies, and reach those who need support most. For instance, here at Food from the Heart, cash donatinos are used to fuel our ability to provide consistent and reliable food assistance to individuals and families facing hardship.
Through your cash donations, it enables us to keep programmes like Bread Run, Community Food Pack and School Goodie Bag running smoothly, bringing nourishment to those who face food insecurity. Every dollar contributed translates into tangible support, helping us combat food insecurity and nourish lives of communities in need.
To make a cash donation (be it a one-time donation or a monthly donation) to us, you can contribute through our website, visit our office in person, or send a cheque by mail. Every cash contribution to us is depply valued, and can also bring you tax benefits.
As a registered Institue of Public Character (IPC) charity, donations to Food from the Heart of S$50 and above are eligible for a 250% tax deduction. This means that for every dollar you give, you can reduce your taxable income by S$2.50
The desire to give back through in-kind donations resonated deeply with many of us in Singapore. In fact, according to the Individual Giving Study by NVPC, 77% of Singaporeans are open to giving through donations in-kind in the future. But why wait for a future call to action when you can make a significant impact right now?
During the holiday season, food donations remain especially vital. While they typically provide a lifeline for those facing food insecurity, donations during this time of year means that the less-fortunate are able to partake in the joy of the season and nourish their families with wholesome meals.
At Food from the Heart, we ensure that every in-kind donation to our food charity counts by carefully selecting items that meet the dietary needs of our beneficiaries. Our Food Wish List reflects the specific needs of those we serve, ensuring that your donatinos directly address critical gaps and provide maximum benefits.
While traditional methods like cash and food donations and invaluable, the holiday season also presents an opportunity to explore more personalised and creative ways to give back. Imagine the hoy of sponsoring a holiday meals for a family in your neighbourhood, or consider making a donations in someone's honour, a thoughtful gesture that not only supports a worthy cause but also celebrates a loved one.
This holiday season, let's go beyong simply giving, and embrace the power of strategic philanthrophy. Whether through cash donations that enables charities like us to thrive, thoughtful food contributions that fight food insecurity, or creative giving that brings unexpected joy, eact act of kindness helps to cultivate a socitey where those in need are mebraced with generosity.
