We're Open: Community Shop @ Chong Pang

Last Saturday February 22nd, we officially launched Community Shop @ Chong Pang. We were joined by Grassroot Adviser Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law, our Chairman, Board of Director and CEO, sponsor BNP Paribas, as well as Globalpoint Far East, community leaders, volunteers and supporters.  

The Shop opened its door to serve close to 500 lower-income households in Yishun from Chong Pang, Nee Soon Central and Nee Soon East, and is projected to help 1,000 families. It is our fifth Community Shop, after Mountbatten, Boon Lay, Lengkok Bahru and Punggol. 

 

On the same day, we ran a full day food donation drive for our newest Community Shop. Volunteers from BNP Paribas helped to check, sort and stock up the shelves. Notable contributions came from WongPartnership LLP, Proofpoint Inc and Little Footprints Preschool (366, 388 and 701A Yishun).

 

 

The Community Shop Food from the Heart's initiative towards giving better where beyond just sustenance, our food support represents dignity, stability, and love. Communities in need are empowered with dignity and choice, which restores a sense of independence and respect, and minimise wastage. In a survey conducted last year, nine in 10 beneficiaries prefer food support through the Community Shop. Find how out it works here.

In his address at the launch event, Grassroot Adviser and Minister K Shanmugam commended how the Community Shop is fully run by volunteers. It also promotes active engagement from members of the public who can contribute through its 24/7 food drop.
