Birthday Fundraisers: A Truly Feel-Good Present

What do you wish for for your birthday this year?

For Food from the Heart supporter Fergus Jes, who turns 50 this October, it is to raise funds for those in need of food through his fundraiser on giving.sg. A medical doctor by profession and working in the government sector, Jes seems to have geared many aspects of his life towards giving and serving the community. We ask him more about his upcoming birthday present to us.

He has always been into community work.

I am active in community development and have few projects running. I am facilitating a study circle with parents in Toa Payoh neighbourhood on building up their capacity for service every Saturday and am one of the founders of Syncroony, a community choir that is a Ground Up Movement recognised by Singapore Kindness Movement. I also had a chance to collaborate with Campus Impact to raise funds for their education enhancement programme. Through Syncroony, a collaboration was made with NVPC last year to participate for their "Giving Week". I believe that  giving is one of the core community values we need to uphold. This year, I was looking for a food charity to focus on and make contribution and coincidentally, I received an email from Food from the Heart.

On why he chose 2019 to hold this fundraiser.

This year is so special year for me because I'm turning 50. Also, it is a special year [for my faith]. In a way, this is a significant milestone in my life. I want to share this joy and the opportunity to serve the community as much as possible.

One more wish.

I hope I can also encourage friends to think of celebrating life more meaningfully with this type of initiatives such as helping organisations like Food from the Heart.

Feeling inspired by Jes yet? From now till 31 March 2020, cash donations through any form will be matched 1:1 by the Bicentennial Community Fund. Make a donation to Food from the Heart today.
